About the event

About the SUEB 5K 10k Event:

We would love you to register under our team name, “Idaho Access Team.”  You can choose to sign up and run the 5k or 10k race or sign up for the 5k Urban Route, accessible for all ages and abilities.  There is also a race for kids.

Enjoy the fun-filled 5k the WCA created in partnership with the Idaho Access Project and the Northwest ADA Center-Idaho that takes you on a 5k route through beautiful downtown Boise. It includes many notable sites like the Anne Frank Memorial and the "Taking Flight" statue at the WCA, FACES of Hope inspired mural (Basque Block), SueB Memorial Tree (Ann Morrison) and Cherie Buckner Webb Park.

We have developed audio descriptions of the landmarks on the Urban route.  ASL Interpreters will be on-site.

WHAT IS THE SUEB 5K 10K?

DESCRIPTION

The SueB 5K 10K honors the memory of Susan “SueB” Newby and promotes healthy relationships while raising important funds to sustain free services at the WCA. The 13th Annual SueB 5k 10k will be IN-PERSON and the event will kick off on October 2, 2022, at Julia Davis Park.

This event honors the life of Susan “SueB” Newby, whom most believe was the victim of a domestic abuse homicide in 2008. This annual event, first started by Sue’s friends and family, provides an opportunity to raise awareness about domestic abuse while celebrating healthy relationships.

Although we are entering a stage of new normal the honest truth is that domestic violence does not end when a pandemic does. We found that in July of 2021 we had the highest number of calls into our domestic violence hotline ever. Home is still not safe for all but we have the chance to raise awareness that there is hope and kindness in our community.

100% of sponsor donations and participant fees support our Endowment Fund to ensure the WCA can maintain our services and serve our clients for many years to come.

In the heartfelt words of Sue’s sister Marj Sente: "Don’t wait until your sister, daughter or mother is a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault, step forward now and make an investment in the WCA to raise awareness about domestic violence."

IF you need help:

If this is an emergency, please dial 911. The best way to ensure you get the information you need as quickly as possible is for you to call WCA’s 24-hour confidential hotline at 208.343-7025. This number is answered 24-hours a day, 7-days a week by a trained advocate that will speak with you about options and resources.

They also have a trained advocate you can speak with in person at the WCA Crisis Center 720 W. Washington Street, in downtown Boise Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-787-7233 or visit their website for an online chat option or connect with loveisrespect.org and text: LOVEIS to 22522.
