Pizza, Peers & Possibilities

What happens when you bring people together, add some pizza, and create space to share what you’ve learned?

We’re finding out!

LINC is planning a new quarterly peer support and community-building gathering for consumers who want to connect with other people with disabilities, share experiences, learn about resources, and help shape positive change in their communities.

Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me: Know Your Resources

For our first gathering, we’ll get together over pizza to talk about something we all need from time to time: knowing where to find the information and resources that can make life a little easier.

What resources have you found helpful? What do you wish someone had told you sooner? What information was surprisingly difficult to find? And what do you still wish existed?

We’ll share ideas, experiences, and resources while identifying gaps in areas such as:

  • Housing

  • Transportation and community access

  • Benefits and waiver services

  • Employment

  • Accessibility and accommodations

  • Healthcare

  • Emergency preparedness

  • Other community resources

We’ll also talk about the kinds of tools that could make finding information easier. Participants may help choose and create consumer-friendly resource sheets, checklists, scripts, and guides using LINC’s Digital Lab and Canva.

What Needs to Change?

Every gathering will include time to ask a bigger question: What needs to change?

Participants can identify barriers they encounter, resources that are missing or difficult to access, and systems that aren't working as well as they should. LINC can use these conversations to identify recurring issues and inform future systems advocacy and community education efforts.

You Help Shape the Group

This is your group, and we want participants to help decide what it becomes.

At the first gathering, we'll talk about topics for future events, including possibilities such as benefits and Medicaid/Medicare, transportation, emergency preparedness, housing and disability rights, employment, accessibility, reasonable accommodations, and more.

And there's one more thing participants get to help decide: the name!

“Pizza, Peers & Possibilities” is just a working title. The people who participate will have the opportunity to choose a name that reflects what they want this gathering to be.

Come Connect With Us

When: Thursdays, 2–5 p.m.

Where: LINC Conference Room

How often: Quarterly

Come for the pizza. Stay for the conversation, connections, and possibilities.

This gathering brings together several parts of independent living: Peer Support, Independent Living Skills, Information & Referral, Individual Self-Advocacy, and Systems Advocacy.

Most importantly, it’s a chance to learn from one another and help make sure people have access to the information and resources they need to live the life of their choosing.
