Before joining the Ticket to Work program, Madonna felt stuck. Fear and frustration shaped her days, especially the worry that working could cost her the Medicaid she relied on. She wanted to contribute and find purpose—but more than anything, she needed someone to listen, explain her options clearly, and move at her pace.
Ticket to Work gave Madonna exactly that. With a trusted advocate by her side, she learned how employment and benefits could work together. Instead of feeling rushed or overlooked, she felt supported and empowered. “This is the very best thing I’ve ever been involved in,” Madonna says. For the first time, she could imagine a future where work felt possible—and meaningful.
Today, Madonna is thriving and doing work she truly loves. Now in her fourth year on the job, she’s earned a raise and gained confidence she never thought she’d have. “I love my job. I deserve my raise, and I am good at my job,” she says proudly. Working in the mental health field, Madonna has found purpose in helping others—and in believing in herself.
Her message to others is heartfelt and hopeful: “Please take that chance. Ticket to Work isn’t about forcing you—it’s about helping you succeed. At 62, I never dreamed I’d have a job I love. I just want someone else to feel like I do.”
